I'm quite amazed that I'm a teacher, get me OUTSIDE here! has been shortlisted especially in the Best Ed Tech/Resource Sharing category (thanks everyone who nominated this blog). Whilst I don't go for self-promotion, I'm keen for the blog to get votes to raise the profile of learning and playing outdoors within all sectors of mainstream education.
Here's why...
Very often, educators forget that there is a real world beyond the four walls of their classroom which can be used each and every day to make learning fun and relevant for all children and young people. School grounds, local area and visits further afield can deeply enrich the education we offer children.
Very often, schools fail to remember that fresh air and free play outside is helps children concentrate better when back in class.
Very often, those building schools and running them do not realise that natural playspaces and beautifully developed school grounds reduces incidents of playground bullying and violence.

I'm a teacher, get me OUTSIDE here! is my way of providing remote support, ideas, advice and information to educators, parents and everyone and anyone who wants or needs to get children outdoors.
The more who know about this blog, the more children who get a chance to experience learning outside with their hands, hearts and head in this wonderful world. And that's precious!

**This wikki is wonderful outdoor leadership idea for all ages. It was developed by Kate Coutts, HT at Uyeasound Primary School on Shetland. It's Britain's most northern school. Sadly on 21st December, this school will close forever. Please vote and make this award part of many tributes to this amazing little school.

"If you look at my school, we have nothing but trees and rocks. It is still beautiful and after learning ideas from you (and others), I started looking at my yard with new perspective. I used to think that until I could add playground equipment, I couldn't say I had a good play yard but I no longer say this. My kids love playing out in my yard and in the woods behind us and they never have asked me once for toys or a slide:)"

Thanks for spreading the word. I had not even heard of this "movement"--if one can call it that. It actually is a pretty mainstream historical idea. Perhaps a bit waylaid along the way. I am all for it! Wholeheartedly agree!
This year my 7th grade science students and I are making a Life Science Portfolio on Flickr as we explore a local trail. The days we walk to the trail are our favorite science days. Now with the new snow we've had, we'll be back out there soon. Your post has inspired me to think of additional ways to get us outside.
I love the #eddies and how they make us aware of new educators, ideas, and members for our PLN. Keep up the great work!
